School of Athens

Mirror

In the Renaissance, art became a very well known subject. All around new artists were flourishing. Many new creations and ideas were made through paintings, drawings, sculptures, ect... One of the greatest art pieces was the School of Athens. The School of Athens tells us that during the renaissance people were starting to look back at the ancient Greek and Roman times. The architecture follows the same path as the Greeks and Romans architecture. The painting shows us that science and maths were also starting to take shape. You can see great thinkers and scientists teaching young men. This painting reflects that the Renaissance was a time of new knowledge and understanding.

School of Athens

If I was found in the painting ' School of Athens' I think I would be Hypatia. Hypatia was a Greek scholar from Alexandria in Eygpt. She was suppossedly the first woman to study mathematics. She aslo taught philosophy and astronomy. In the painting she is listening to the class that Pythagoras is teaching. She is on the side of Plato which is were they think beyond the Earth and use science, math, and philosophy to prove their ideas. I see myself as Hypatia because she was one of the first women to actually do something amazing as this. I usually try new things and stand out. I believe that she kind of stands out too. With a room filled with men teaching men, she is the only lady that became a teacher just like them. It shows that it was brave of her to go into a world where science and other teachings still weren't totally accepted. But I would do such a thing. I would go and work with the other men when no other lady had. I would learn things that other girls might have learned. I believe that there are other things out there besides our world. I may not be as a strong believer as Hypatia and other students, teachers that worked along with Plato, but I do believe that somewhere, maybe not on Earth, but somewhere there is other life, bigger or smaller than our life forms, are out there.
